Architects / urban planners, apply for registration with the Chamber of Architects of Saxony

Application for registration in the list of architects, interior architects, landscape architects or urban planners according to § 5 and §§ 33 to 34a Saxon Architects Act (SächsArchG)

The professional title "architect", "interior architect", "landscape architect" or "urban planner" may be used in the Free State of Saxony by anyone who is entered under this title in the list of architects or urban planners of the Saxon Chamber of Architects.

Registration in one of the above lists is not required if you are already registered in a corresponding list with the Chamber of Architects of another federal state.

Those registered in the list of architects and urban planners at the Chamber of Architects of Saxony are compulsory members of the Chamber of Architects of Saxony. Professional duties apply.

Attention! If you use the above-mentioned professional titles without authorization, the Chamber of Architects of Saxony is authorized to prohibit you from doing so. The unauthorized use of the professional title is an administrative offense that can be punished with a fine.

Notes:

  • If you have an academic title (e.g. Dipl.-Ing, Bachelor, Master, etc.), you are entitled to use this title regardless of whether you use the above-mentioned professional title.
  • In the case of an academic title based on a foreign educational title, you use the title in the language of the Member State of origin with the addition of the name and place of the educational institution or examination board which awarded the educational title.

With the authorization to use the professional title "architect" or " interior architect" you are also authorized to sign construction documents.

Temporary and occasional activity

You can obtain the authorization to use the above professional titles as a foreign service provider even without being registered in the list of architects or urban planners, if your foreign professional qualification has been recognized. You will be entered in a register at the Chamber of Architects of Saxony. With the registration you are not a member of the Chamber of Architects of Saxony, nevertheless professional duties apply.

Service details

Prerequisite

  • Residence, professional establishment or predominant professional practice in the Free State of Saxony
  • Professional practice
    • after graduation usually 2 years of practical experience in the main professional tasks of your field of study or
    • successful completion of a professional internship or traineeship in construction
  • at least 5 continuing education courses in the respective field after graduation within the last 3 years
  • in case of self-employed activity: sufficient liability insurance

Further requirements, depending on the type and origin of the training certificate / professional qualification:

Evidence of education - domestic

  • Degree in the corresponding field of study of at least 8 semesters of regular study time at a German university, which fulfills the content requirements according to the Saxon Architects Act

    • Study requirement urban planner Annex 1 to § 5 Para. 2 Sentence 1 No. 2 SächsArchG

Evidence of education / professional qualification - EU member states or equivalent states

    • Evidence of education/professional qualification entitling the holder to take up and exercise the profession of architect, interior architect, landscape architect or urban planner in an EU member state or equivalent states
    • Determination by the Chamber of Architects of Saxony that in certain points there are no significant differences to the legally defined registration requirements

When practicing the profession of architect, interior architect, landscape architect or urban planner from one or more EU member states or equivalent states in which the respective profession is not regulated:

  • Proof of practicing the profession for a duration of at least 1 year or an equivalent total duration on a part-time basis during the previous 10 years.
  • Recognition by the Chamber of Architects of Saxony that in certain points there are no significant differences to the legally defined registration requirements.

Only in the case of the professional title "architect" can

  • an automatic recognition takes place if the requirements of the EU Professional Recognition Directive (RL 2005/36/EC) are met, e.g. according to Art. 21 and 46 in connection with Annex V No. 5.7.1. or another regulation or
  • be entitled to use this professional title in accordance with the requirements of Art. 48 of the Professional Recognition Directive

Evidence of formal qualifications - other countries

  • Evidence of education and training recognized by the Saxony Chamber of Architects as equivalent to the respective required domestic study requirements (determination of equivalence).

Notice:

For applicants with a professional qualification from an EU member state or a state equivalent to this or for late repatriates.

In the event that the equivalence of your professional qualification could not be determined or significant differences in the professional qualification were determined, you have the possibility - according to the requirements of the SächsArchG - to carry out certain compensatory measures (aptitude test, adaptation course).

Attention! If facts justify the assumption that you do not possess the reliability and personal suitability required for the exercise of the profession, you will be refused registration.

Procedure

Submit the completed and and signed form with the required documents to the Saxony Chamber of Architects.

  • The Saxony Chamber of Architects will confirm receipt of the documents within one month of receipt of the application and, if necessary, inform you of any missing documents.
  • After registration you will receive a certificate.

 

Required documents

For domestic proof of education:

  • Proof of successful completion of a corresponding course of study at a German university which meets the recognition criteria (original or certified copy)
  • Certificate from the educational institution confirming the standard period of study specified for the course of study (only for degrees Dipl.-Ing. (FH) or Bachelor; single copy)
  • Proof of practical work (single copy) or of a professional internship of at least two years in accordance with the requirements of the SächsArchG (Saxony Archaeological Act) or of a successfully completed construction traineeship (original or certified copy)
  • Proof of attendance of further training events (simple copy)

in the case of proof of training / professional qualification from an EU member state or equivalent state in which the profession is regulated:

  • Application form (forms & online services).
  • Proof of identity (original or certified copy)
  • Proof of residence, establishment or predominant practice of the profession in the Free State of Saxony (single copy)
  • Proof of education (original or certified copy)
  • Proof of practical activity (simple copy) or of a professional internship according to the requirements of the SächsArchG of at least two years (original or certified copy)

in which this profession is not regulated:

  • Application form (Forms & Online Services)
  • Proof of citizenship (original or certified copy)
  • Proof of residence, establishment or predominant practice of the profession in the Free State of Saxony (single copy)
  • Proof of education (original or certified copy)
  • Proof that this profession has already been practiced for 1 year during the previous 10 years in one of the above-mentioned states (simple copy).

For the area of automatic recognition / special recognition for architects in the area of the Professional Recognition Directive:

  • Application form (Forms & Online Services).
  • Proof of nationality (original or certified copy)
  • Proof of residence, establishment or predominant practice of the profession in the Free State of Saxony (single copy)
  • Proof of education (original or certified copy)if applicable, additionally proof of a professional internship according to the requirements of the SächsArchG of at least two years (original or certified copy)

or

  • Proof of authorization on the basis of Art. 48 of the Directive 2005/36/EC (single copy)

in case of foreign proof of education (third country):

  • Application form (forms & online services).
  • Proof of nationality (original or certified copy)
  • Proof of residence, establishment or predominant exercise of profession in the Free State of Saxony (simple copy)
  • Proof of education (original or certified copy)
  • Declaration whether and at which office and with which result an application for the determination of the equivalence of the professional qualification has already been filed
  • Proof of practical work (simple copy) or of a professional internship in accordance with the requirements of the SächsArchG of at least two years or of a successfully completed construction traineeship (original or certified copy)
  • Proof of attendance of further education courses (simple copy)

in case of self-employed activity:

  • Proof of sufficient professional liability insurance (simple copy)
  • if you wish to use the suffix "Freelance Proof of autonomous and independent activity (simple copy)

Translations

Educational certificates and proofs of professional experience that are not written in German must be accompanied by a translation in German. Only publicly appointed or sworn interpreters or translators are authorized to translate.

In individual cases, the competent body may require further documents or translations in German.

Deadlines

Duration of the procedure: up to 3 months after submission of the complete documents (in justified exceptional cases, up to a maximum of 4 months).

Validity of the registration: unlimited

Costs

  • Fee for registration: minimum EUR 80.00; as a rule EUR 160.00
  • annual chamber fee: EUR 385,00 reduced EUR 96,00

Electronic signature / Signature

Who can use the electronic signature?

Anyone who has documents that have been issued or recognized in the Federal Republic of Germany or by an EU member state or a state equivalent to it.

How can I sign electronically?

A qualified electronic signature is required in order to fulfill the signature requirement for electronic applications. This is the only way to ensure that the sender's identity can be reliably established.

Your application and the necessary declarations require your handwritten signature. According to German law, your application form must have a qualified electronic signature in order to be considered signed. You will need an appropriate program for this. You can obtain electronic signatures from:

  • Trust service providers (according to the directory of the Federal Network Agency) or
  • the Bundesdruckerei (for citizens with a new identity card/nPA or electronic residence permit).

For electronic submission, it is sufficient to submit simple copies for the necessary evidence. In justified cases, the Saxony Chamber of Architects is entitled to request certified copies.
