Apply for entry in the electoral roll for EU citizens (European election)

As an EU citizen entitled to vote, you will only be entered in an electoral roll in the Federal Republic of Germany upon application. If you have already done so for a previous European election, you do not need to submit another application.

Note: You can only vote in one of the member states in each European election. Therefore, when submitting your application, you must affirm that you will exercise your active right to vote only in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Prerequisite

  • You are eligible to vote.
  • You have not yet been entered in the electoral roll at the municipal administration responsible for you.

Procedure

  • Obtain the official form (see "Required documents").
  • Fill in the form and sign it yourself.
  • Send the application to the relevant municipal administration.

Application with assistance

If you are unable to complete the application and affidavit yourself because of a physical impairment or reading difficulties, another person may help you. Your helper must be at least 16 years old and must also sign the application and affidavit.

Required documents

  • The form "Antrag für die Eintragung in das Wählerverzeichnis" (Application for entry in the electoral roll) with instructions for completion is available on the portal of the Federal Election Commissioner prior to the election.
  • You can also obtain the forms before the election from your municipal administration.

Deadlines

  • application for entry in the electoral roll: 21 days before the election at the latest

Miscellaneous

If you move within the Federal Republic of Germany after you have submitted the application, the previous municipality of residence will decide on the application and immediately inform the new municipality of residence of the result.
