Child day care, apply for permission

Anyone wishing to work as a childminder (Tagesmutter or Tagesvater) requires a permit if all of the following criteria apply. You care for children

  • outside the parental home,
  • in other rooms,
  • during part of the day,
  • more than 15 hours a week
  • for remuneration and
  • longer than three months.
Note: In day care, mainly children under the age of three are cared for, but care up to the age of 14 is possible.

Prerequisite

Prerequisites for suitability as a caregiver are, among other things, personal, professional and health suitability. For example, the following criteria are checked:

  • Suitable home environment to care for infants and toddlers (for example, smoking is prohibited in the daycare center).
  • Qualification that qualifies for childcare
  • the welfare of the foster child must be guaranteed (as well as the children who may already be living in the family)
  • orderly economic circumstances

Procedure

Before you apply for permission to care for children, you should seek advice from the Youth Welfare Office. They will tell you what specific requirements you need to meet and what evidence you need to provide.

  • Submit application in writing to the responsible youth welfare office or hand it in personally for recording
  • personal suitability is checked
  • Examination of the available premises
  • if the requirements are met, permission is granted

During the counseling session at your youth welfare office, you will find out which specific documents you will need - these include:

  • Extended police clearance certificate
  • Brief curriculum vitae
  • Proof of education
  • Proof of course "First aid for infants and small children
  • Pedagogical concept, especially with statements about
    • Framework
    • Family structure
    • Goals of the pedagogical work
    • Developmental conditions of the children
    • Experiential and developmental opportunities
    • Health education, nutrition
    • Daily routine
    • Aims and forms of parental work, cooperation with facilities and institutions

Deadlines

Care permit: valid for five years

Before the expiration of the period, you can apply for the extension.
